Let’s Give Food Pantry its Props
UUBerks Food Pantry is our direct aid ministry for our community. We open our church home every fourth Saturday of the month to offer non-perishables and fresh food from the Berks/Schuylkill Helping Harvest Food Bank. Close to 100 families gather in our Sanctuary to receive assistance.
We are one of the only food pantries that includes patron volunteers in the distribution process. Some of the patrons have been volunteering every month for 10+ years! We are also one of the few that allow patrons to choose their items. These reflect our commitment to dignity, hospitality and inclusion.
Food Pantry Shout Outs
Mark Burton does a great job managing the whole process, from ordering the food, communicating with volunteers, record keeping, storage, and logistics. His partner Stephanie Elliot is the steady and reliable presence in the Gerber Room who exudes helpful calm at all times during the Saturday distribution. Thank you very much Mark and Steph!
We need your help
To make the distribution run smoothly, we need to count on at least 10 church members to volunteer each month. The Food Pantry Volunteer Sign-Up link includes Oct, Nov, and Dec.2026. Please look ahead so we can address gaps in coverage.
It’s fine if you need to wait until closer to the day. DROP-IN VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME ANY TIME !
General Flow of the Morning (+/- 15 minutes)
- 6:00am Some patrons start lining up on sidewalk.
- 8:30am Patrons enter the sanctuary.
- 9:00am Truck arrives
- 10:00-11:30am Food Distribution (or until food runs out)
- 11:30-12:30 Clean up and reset rooms
