Just For Fun!

Joy is all around us.  Sometimes we just have to search it out.

How many times have you heard the saying “Just for fun!”?

These “just for fun” moments can bring us so much joy.

This month how will you practice joy?

This month will you dismiss the opportunity for joy?

How often have you heard yourself or someone else say?

 oh “that’s baby stuff!”

I’m too old for that.

I’m too serious for that.

Or maybe …

I don’t have time for that.

Well lately I’ve been invited into the land of “baby stuff” and it’s some serious fun.  Baby’s know how to live in the present moment.  It’s the only one they truly know.  The rest of us – we need to practice.  We need to create the opportunity to practice joy.

Here’s a practice for this month. It might help you try out being in your body – to find joy in “foolish” things.  Laughing.  This is one our Soul Matters resource packet taught me:

Did you know that some people say pretending to cry and bending over at the same time triggers spontaneous laughter?  Give it a try!  Just for the fun of it.

Go ahead and make yourself the tallest self you yourself can be.

Then as you are able – pretend to Cry like a Baby – the biggest whail you’ve ever whailed while you bend all the way down to the floor.

What happens when you slowly – very slowly start to lift your head and become your tallest self again.  Most people will naturally begin laughing as they rise.

Try it out a couple of times.  If this one doesn’t work for you – try a different laughing meditation – just for the fun of it.

Maybe word jokes are more your thing:

Why did the teddy bear say no to dessert?  Because it was stuffed!

What do you call a bear with no teeth?  A gummy bear!

Why did the bicycle fall over?  Because it was two – tired!
