FAQs from Singing Resistance:
Why singing?
🎵Songs and singing together have the ability to deeply move us,open our hearts, and resource us
🎵Singing has historically been a critical part of social movements globally as well as here in the US. From freedom songs in South Africa in the Anti-Apartheid Movement, to the Singing Revolution in Estonia we borrow from their brilliance and commitment. In the US, song has been a leading force in the labor movements and in particular in the US Civil Rights movement with songs rooted in spirituals, and folk and gospel music. While our project is secular, it is is heavily inspired by these movements and feels reverant to those before us who helped to pave the way.

🎵🎵Who are the singers?
Everyone! Anyone who wants to sing and wants to show up in resistance to authoritarianism. There are no “bad” or “good” singers – it’s our birthright to sing! 🎵🎵
