Our theme from Soul Matters this month is Awakening Curiosity. Awake! Arise! …But do I have to? Most mornings I need a little help waking up. Invitations make it a little easier than alarm bells. So here enters our hymn of the month.
This month’s hymn of the month, “Let Us Sing” hails from Minnetonka, MN. The invitation abounds “Let us…” Lyricist Christy Dachelet writes in her first verse:
“Come join me in song, hear the sweet chords resound. Our voices together be heard all around. Come join in the song as the blessings abound. Let us sing, we are blessed, let us sing.”
But I think it’s her second verse that’s really helping wake up to curiosity:
“We sing for our children, their futures unseen. Their bright eyes and laughter, their tears and their dreams. Take joy in their wonder and questioning minds. Let us sing, we are blessed, let us sing.”
As Soul Matters, April Rosario, director of religious education resources writes “working with children has taught me that curiosity is asking questions, but it’s also so much more […] It’s asking questions not just to get answers, but because the world itself is fascinating.”
